Sixty-eight descendents of the A.J. Walker, Sr. family met Saturday Aug.5, at the Senior Citizen Building located at Mill Pond Park in San Saba.
Activities of the day began with a covered dish lunch followed by games of 42 and Chickenfoot, singing of favorite hymns and reviewing pictures of past reunions and family members. the oldest picture brought to the reunion was that of A.J. Walker Sr., his mother and children at the old home place in Pecan Grove.
Prizes were awarded to family members from the youngest to the oldest, the person traveling the farthest and the couple married the longest.
Scott Gish, Jr., son of Beth and Scott Gish, Sr. from Santa Fe, Texas, was the youngest. Scott is the great grandson of Reba Walker Stutts and the great-great grandson of Terry and Maud Walker, Sr. of San Saba.
The award of the oldest went to Opal Walker Williams from San Antonio, Texas, Daughter of the late Billy and Pearl Walker and granddaughter of the late A.J. Walker, Sr.
Traveling the fartherest was Jackie Lane Walker Nassbaum and children, Justin and Jordan, from Englewood, Colorado, dauther/grandchildren of Bill T. and Ola Mae Walker and grandchildren of the late Billy and Pearl Walker.
Curt and Roxie Walker Wilcox from Bellville were married the longest. Roxie is the daughter of the late Earnest and Estell Walker Pierce and granddaughter of A.J. Walker, Sr.
There was also a door prize given to Bob Hardy of San Saba. Bob is the son-in-law of George and Nell Walker McHorse. Nell is the daughter of the late Alfred and Velma Walker and granddaughter of A.J. Walker, Sr.
Two others were in attendance from out-of-state: Janice Walker, daughter of the late Sam and Ruth Walker and granddaughter of A.J. Walker, Sr., from Portales, New Mexico, and Donna Beth Oberst from Lawton, Oklahoma, who is the daughter of Bill T. and Ola Mae Walker and the granddaughter of the late Billy and Pearl Walker.
Happy Birthday was sung to Laurie Walker who celebrated her 21st birthday. Laurie is the daughter of John and Joann Walker of Richmond, Texas, and the granddaughter of the late Terry and Maud Walker of San Saba.
Everyone enjoyed the day visiting and reminiscing with friends and family members.
