A.J. Walker, Sr. Reunion
The picture above shows A. J. Walker, Sr. at the home of his son, A.J. Walker, Jr. The home was located at Pecan Grove near “Sand Rock Mountain.”
The A.J. Walker, Sr. descendents held their annual reunion Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the Senior Center at Mill Pond Park. Eighty-two family members and friends had a wonderful day of looking at pictures, playing games and “42,” having a lot of fun with a Silent Auction; and ending the day with lots of visiting. We had a delicious barbeque and covered dish lunch followed by cakes, pies, cookies and homemade ice cream.
The theme of the day could have been called “A Day at the Beach” with the tables covered in the colors of lime green and ocean blue. Each table had a centerpiece of a bright colored watering can full of spring flowers with alternating figurines of Shamu and flamingos. These, along with a larger centerpiece, were added to the door prizes given out during the auction, which included items brought by family members. There were also two items raffled off: a fascinating Globe [deep blue with the countries in different types of stones ] won by Doug Leopold, Loveland, CO, and a portable DVD player won by one happy little girl, Samantha Howell.
Our family genealogist, Eldon Pierce, was unable to attend this year but he had sent updated lists for all to check out – each list helps him to keep our “family tree” in place. The list will be added to at least three more times before the end of the year with three of our ladies in various maternity stages- we say “at least” because we know at least one set of twins is expected.
